FAQ: Laser

Is this laser treatment good for reducing sun-damaged dark spots and freckles?
Although this treatment is primarily for smoothing out fine lines and wrinkles, it does treat dark spots. Even after one treatment, you will notice a lightening of the dark spots on your face. To more specifically address dark spots and freckles, we can combine this treatment with another laser treatment that specifically attacks dark spots. This can be done on the same day as the Profractional/Matrix laser or a different day.

What are the Matrix CO2 Fractional and Profractional Lasers?
The Matrix laser is a fractionated CO2 laser and will be available at the Valencia location. The Profactional laser is a fractionated Erbium-YAG laser and will be available at the Sherman Oaks location.

After a fractal treatment how long is the down time?
The fractionated treatment down time is about 2-3 days. On the first day the skin will be a red. On the second day and third day, the skin will be pink. You can apply make-up on the skin on the second day.

Would you recommend this procedure for redness and sun damage to the chest and neck? Would that be the same cost?
This treatment is primarily for fine lines and wrinkles, however it will improve dark spots and redness. It definitely helps with sun damage. We have other lasers that will specifically target redness. We even offer photodynamic therapy, which can reverse pre-skin cancers and sun damage. Please call for more details on the other procedures.

Is this good for acne scars, large pores?
This procedure is excellent for acne scars and large pores!

Is this only for the face or could I choose to have my hands treated instead of the face?
Yes, you may. This treatment is also excellent for the hands, neck, chest, and arms. Thanks for the question!

I bought a series of IPL treatments and have done one so far... how does this interact with IPL or is it one or the other? Should I finish out the IPLs and then do this? Or use IPL as a touch up. I Just don't know the difference.
IPL treatments target mostly the dark spots and red spots (pigmentation). You should wait at least 2 weeks after IPL before doing another IPL or a fractionated laser such as Profactional or Matrix. The Profractional and Matrix lasers primarily address the fine lines and wrinkles. They help to a lesser extent on the dark and red spots.

How do I know which one is good for me? Do you offer a consultation first and then decide if one should go to the Valencia or Sherman Oaks office depending on the best treatment for one's skin condition?
The Profractional and Matrix treatments are very similar. We can achieve the same results with either laser. Of course, if you would like to come in for a consultation first, we can discuss all of your concerns at that time and schedule the laser at a separate date.

Do the doctors perform the treatments or someone else in the office?
We have doctors, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, and registered nurses in the office. Normally, the registered nurses perform the procedure. You can make a special request and we will verify their availability.

I have EXTREMELY sensitive skin and have had this laser treatment done before but it took over a week to heal. Can I divide ONE treatment into 2 visits so that my skin has a chance to heal?
We can adjust the settings so that your skin will be able to tolerate it. There would be no need to divide the treatments.

I don't know how many i should purchase, 2 or 4. if i go w/the 2, and during consultation you suggest 4, can i just pay the difference? also, many estheticians warn that laser treatments causes brown spots, is this a risk with this procedure?
We are always happy to accommodate our customers with reasonable requests. Yes, if you wish to upgrade your package, we can do that at a later time. Regarding the risk of brown spots, any laser treatment can potentially cause brown spots. However, we recommend avoidance of direct sun exposure for 3 days and use of sunscreen and a hat. The risks are minimal and reversible.

After a fractal treatment how long is the down time?
The fractionated treatment down time is about 2-3 days. On the first day the skin will be a red. On the second day and third day, the skin will be pink. You can apply make-up on the skin on the second day.

The website for this Linage Profractional Laser says to avoid direct sunlight until fully healed. Does this mean stay out of the sun for three days or three weeks?
I would stay out of the direct sunlight for a few days. After that, intermittent direct sunlight is ok, but I would wear sunscreen and a hat if possible.
